An experienced artist in both the finest and animation background field.
He has taught colour theory and painting techniques at Sheridan College
in Oakville (Ontario). Michael has also been a guest background painter
and instructor for Studio B in Vancouver. He enjoys painting in watercolor,acrylics,
gouache,cel paint and more recently rendering on the computer in both Photoshop
and Painter.
Experience Profile Nelvana Ltd. Background Artist/Supervisor Michael has worked for the Toronto based animation studio Nelvana for the last 16 years (full time) He was the Background Supervisor for the Background Department for 8 years. As Supervisor his responsibilities were as follows/ screening, hiring and training incoming artists, painting colour keys, developing new art directions and styles for new animation series. He has worked on such shows as Beetlejuice, Blazing Dragons, Gargoyles, Dog City and Magic School Bus. (about 40 series in all) -Bearspots/ Background artist. Painted backgrounds for T.V. spots and worked on 40 field backgrounds for an Imax film. -Sheridan College/ Taught a variety of painting courses for the C. Ed. Program -Studio B Productions/ Painted background keys for a variety of productions including Jungle Cubs, Tex Avery and Christmas Carol and Mimi (computer). Also guest background instructor. -Animation House/ Painted full colour backgrounds for variety of spots. -Phoenix Animation/ Painted backgrounds for 1995 Christmas Special -Sullivan's Animation/ Helped paint colour keys and backgrounds for first season of Anne of Green Gables 1999-2000. -Fine Art Galleries (mostly Oakville) Fine Artist Painted works in acrylic, watercolour and oils. Have had over 25 one-man art exhibitions. Miichael has been working in the fine-art world for over 25 years and has been in the animation world over 16 years. He is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art (4 year Fine Art) He is still working at Nelvana, but has re-focused on his own fine-art career after several inspirational trips to areas of eastern Canada and the States. |
